If you have “getting back to nature” on your summer to-do list, there are several camp sites in and around LA that could provide you with the ideal location, regardless of whether you’re seeking a place near the mountains or the crystal blue Pacific Ocean waters.

One top pick is Buckhorn Campground. Situated in the Angeles National Forest, this spot is perched high in the mountains, along the Angeles Crest Highway. It offers sites for both tents and RVs – but because it’s first come, first served, if you plan to go for the weekend, you’ll need to get there by early Friday afternoon.

If settling in near the beach is more your thing, try Carpinteria State Beach Campground. Here you’ll find an awesome spot to call your beach home away from home. The site offers flush toilets, along with areas that are ADA accessible. And, if you want to take a break from hotdogs and s’mores on the campfire, there are some great eateries within walking distance.

Another beautiful spot to consider is the Sycamore Canyon Campground. This location also provides areas for RV and tents. Here you can enjoy hiking, as well as beach access nearby. Additional amenities include flush toilets and a shower house (but be sure to bring some loose change, as the showers are token operated).
