If you’re in or around the Santa Monica locale and looking for an alternate mode of transportation, then look no further than the new fleet of sharable electric scooters and e-bikes that are being rolled out this month.

Beginning now, and running through the next eighteen months, Uber, Lyft, Lime, and Bird are all taking part in a pilot program – which not only includes the offering of these convenient modes of transportation, but also in finding and funding safe places to ride and park.

In fact, the city of Santa Monica has already started working on designated sidewalk boxes for parking these types of vehicles that won’t impede on the right-of-way for pedestrians. You will also start to see more bike lanes appearing in the vicinity.

The companies are making it much easier for users of their services to coordinate how they can get from Point A to Point B, too. For instance, Uber has been working on creating an updated app where users can check the availability of its cars, bikes, and scooters, all in one convenient place.

Not only will these programs allow for a wider choice in transport methods, but – depending on the mode(s) chosen – it increases the ability to take in the fresh air and possibly even burn a few calories!
