How To Buy Your Dream Home – Home Swimming Pools

By |September 8th, 2015|Buyers|

home swimming pools
We’ve talked a lot about the characteristics you need to consider before purchasing the home that will earn the coveted title of: ‘dream house.’  It’s so important to be honest with yourself and your needs and use these as criteria to move forward with your property search. Every dream home means something different to different people. In other words, yours is unique to you and mine is unique to me.  But enough about the interior and location, the next step you need to think about is what you really need from your outside areas.

The Great Outdoors – Home Swimming Pools

When considering your dream home, be sure and take account of your entire surroundings. Of course, compromise will and should be something to have in your back pocket but when you’re beginning your search, it makes sense to be as specific as possible with what you really, truly need in a backyard.  If you’re a fan of parties, allow proper space for that. Imagine where your BBQ will go if there’s not already one built-in somewhere.  The swimming pool or lack thereof is also an important detail to note. There are arguments both pro and con to having a pool. Of course they are a relaxing and refreshing addition to your home, but on the flip side, there are safety concerns to ponder and not just if you have young children.   But even with safety measures in place there are other factors to consider too: additional maintenance costs come with having a pool. There’s also the unspoken expectation that if you’re the family with a pool, you might suddenly get a lot more popular in the summertime. If you’re not good at saying, ‘Sorry, friends, no pool time today!’ then just expect you’ll maybe need to do additional entertaining some months out of the year. Beyond the swimming pool debate, you also may want to ask yourself additional questions about your backyard. For example, are you someone who really hates the sight of power lines or doesn’t want a neighbor’s house towering over the area in which you’ve been dreaming of sunbathing?  Maybe the size of the yard is just not terribly important to you but your kids love to play basketball so a long, flat driveway is key. Maybe you need a detached garage for your yoga studio.

Whatever reasons you may have, it’s crucial to arm yourself with these interior (and exterior!) conversations before beginning your search for your perfect dream home.

Buying Your Dream Home – Is There Enough Room?

By |September 4th, 2015|Buyers|

When it comes to buying your dream home, it’s really not about those flashy magazine spreads or trying to mimic what the trendiest celebrity has just purchased. Your dream home needs to be extremely specific for what you need. We’ve already narrowed down your search quite a bit by determining certain factors that are most crucial to what you need in a home, including stairs/no stairs, neighborhood, kinds of streets, etc. Today we’re moving indoors and deciding how many bedrooms/bathrooms are necessary to find the home you’ve been dreaming about.

Make some room(s)

The main focus of this discussion has been to consider your needs and to be honest with yourself and your situation. How many children do you have? They may be young enough to share a bedroom today but if this is a home you’re planning on living in for a while, the kids may eventually need space of their own. What about overnight guests? Do you live in a city that attracts many long-lost relatives needing a place to crash for the night? Maybe you or your spouse snores and you need a separate spot in the house with a comfortable couch for nights you really need to get a good night’s sleep. Buying a house is a little bit like getting married. The quirks that may seem enduring in the beginning typically do not go away so it’s smart to really decide from the get-go how many bedrooms you need before settling on purchasing a particular property.  The same philosophy can be used how many bathrooms the home has, too.  Do you entertain a lot? Do you want those long-lost relatives who are visiting from out of town to knock on your bathroom door at all hours of the day/night?  Typical master bedroom suites will offer just one attached bathroom so then ask yourself: do I want to share a sink with my partner and fight for mirror and sink space? Or do I need to have a separate vanity and space all for myself? These are important questions to ask before buying.

Just remember: the house could be the most gorgeous flower in the bouquet but if it doesn’t provide what you NEED, then it’s best to put the flower back in the vase and keep searching.

How To Make Your Dream Home A Reality – “Houses With Stairs”

By |September 2nd, 2015|Buyers|

houses with stairs
When it comes to selecting your dream home, it’s all about specifics with compromises.  We’ve talked about different ways to narrow your search so that you not just end up in a perfect home, but the perfect home for you and your loved ones. This means different things to different people so the key thing to remember is what do you really need in a home and to get as detailed with this your criteria as possible. Let’s talk about houses with stairs…

Houses With Stairs

One key factor to consider when narrowing down your search for a dream home may seem obvious yet is still important to note. Houses with stairs! You should consider in advance of buying a home if a second or third story is something you would like to have. Like most every detail to consider, there are pros and cons to a multi-level home. Studies have shown that there are considerable health benefits to living in a home with a second-floor. Climbing stairs multiple times a day is good for the heart and can keep an aging person firmly rooted in physical fitness and activity.

On the other hand, often stairs can become a hindrance if you’re older or infirmed and find them too difficult to successfully navigate.  Not to mention the added safety concerns if you happen to have a toddler or thinking about starting a family down the line.  Of course, baby gates are available to protect the little ones but it’s just one more element to consider.   Physical limitations aside, some people know in their hearts that their personal dream home includes a sweeping view of the land below. To achieve this, you very well may find a home perched high atop a hill. However, more often than not, to own a home with a beautiful view, a second or third story (with staircases) may be a necessity for you.  The good news is: adding an in-home elevator is very en vogue and relatively inexpensive these days, so should the need arise to add one – that’s a viable option, too.
